Randall
Pickens is pushing this and we have used it for decades on certain vehicles. For ages I've envisioned people pulling in their garages and filling up their cars with natural gas that already exists in their homes. How difficult would this be? How would cars be converted? Tford
Converting the car wouldn't be that hard. There are many propane vehicles already around. Mostly trucks because the propane cylinder can be in the box of the truck. The notion of filling up from your house would be hard. The thing with gases is that if you want to store alot of it, you need pressure. Something your household gas system doesn't have. Buying a multi-stage intercooled compression unit just to fill your tank from your household system wouldn't be cost effective. You'd still see plenty of gas stations. westvirginia
Additionally the performance most vehicles see from CNG isn't very good - something on the order of 75% of the power from regular gasoline IIRC (that could have been propane though - I'm a little foggy remembering). AtomicCEO
I looked into this, and I couldn't find kits in the US. I think there are some weird laws about it from state to state... although I know a guy in CT who ran his old hoopdee on propane.
