Chavez
Good for Bill Self and Kansas - a first-rate coach moves to a loaded program; The unfortunate part is that I keep hearing that Marquette's Tom Crean is the top candidate to replace him. (Don't do it Tom, we love you!)

Chavez
Crean to stay at Marquette. Tom Crean said Tuesday that he had agreed to a multi-year contract extension with Marquette University. Crean's decision to stay at Marquette came amid reports indicating he was the leading candidate to replace former Illinois basketball coach Bill Self, who left the Illini Sunday for the University of Kansas. Crean said twice Monday that he hadn't heard from Illinois officials regarding the job opening and wasn't sure if or when he would. He declined to discuss Tuesday whether he had been offered the Illinois position. Crean had signed a multi-year contract extension last April, and although terms of the last contract extension were never released, factoring in ancillary income it is thought he made about $800,000 a year. His new deal is expected to be more lucrative.
