Footballjoe
I need to purchase a pill dispenser for my mother. She is 81 yrs old and having trouble remembering if she took her medicine. Unlike most, its not that she does not take it but she forgets she took it and takes the pills for the next day. I am working with Social Services to get someone in her home on a regular basis but that takes some time since there is a waiting list. I have found some on the Net. There is one in particular that cost $300 that seems like it would work. It dispenses the pills at intervals that you set up. In my mother's case it would be once every 12 hours. The box is lock so she could not get more than whats required. The first one is the one I am considering. has anyone evry had any expierence with any of these? http://www.epill.com/medtime.html Thanks Edited October 30, 2008 by Footballjoe
Skippy
Could she just use one of those really simple pill boxes that has the day of the week on it? Or is it a problem with taking a pill a few times a day? Maybe there is a pill box that is set up for a few times a day. I know that I am only 43 years old and there are times I can not remember if I took my morning pill or not. I am half awake at the time that I take it so sometimes on my drive to work I start wondering.

What is happening is that she forgets whether she took it or not. Then, instead of looking at the day of the week she just takes the next one that has not been taken. Then, instead of looking at the day of the week she just takes the next one that has not been taken. Is it possible to get a pillbox that has like 7 slots (1 for each day) and put 2 pills in each slot. If there is one missing when she forgets she took it if not take it? If there is one missing when she forgets she took it if not take it? Thats exactly what she has. It does not help because she will not follow the days. She takes the whatever pills are in the next slot without looking at the day. I found another pill box on line for about $150 that will work. I also called her doctor and got a prescription for one in case medicaid will pay for it.
Jimmy Neutron
We've thought about one of these for my FIL, but are worried he'd still for get to take a dose and double up later in the day. His meds are so potent at this point, a double dose could kill him.

Also, it is locked and has a beeper when you don't take you medince in the prescribed time. The medicine my mother takes isn't deadly if she double dosed but it certainly isn't good for her.
