Czarina
Once you get this, be sure to go into your Wii settings and change resolution to "480p" or you won't be getting the full benefit. And while you're there be sure to set the wii to widescreen. Pfft. Stuff like this is what I have a 13 year old son for.(I can't currently find another use for him) But thanks for the tip. Kid Cid
with optical you are able to get 5.1 surround sound, DTS, etc. (like with HDMI) whereas with RCA you do not...at least that is what I understand. I just want to get the best sound and picture I can with what I have at the moment... Eventually I will have the funds to upgrade other things, but in the meantime I want to know what I missing out on and if there is a huge difference from what I have now and HDMI. Audio over HDMI and audio over optical is both digital. It is exactly the same. Video over HDMI and video over Component is entirely different. HDMI is digital while Component is analog. That being said, you or I or anyone except someone who works with this stuff at an insiane level of detail will never be able to tell the difference between HDMI and Component connections between the same two pieces of equipment. The bottom line is that an Optical and a Component connection is a fine way to connect your equipment and not something you will be sacrificing quality with. In fact, my TV doesn't support HDMI so it is the way that I have all my equipment connected.
