While I'm still short the market, I've really (REALLY) lightened up from where I was last fall. In fact, I halved my remaining short position this afternoon (leaving me with about 25% of the account value short and the rest in cash).

Hopefully (for everyone) this is a harbinger of things to come (i.e., a bottom).

Muck, I'm stupid when it comes to the market. Can you or someone explain what it means to be short?

In sum, you make money when the asset (in this case, the S&P500) goes down.

Being "long" is making money when it goes up.

What do you think of BP? Near a 10 year low, roughly 1/2 of what it was a year ago. A low P/E and a killer yield.

Its a bit of a wierd spot ... because I'm regulated, I'm very reticent to post specific thoughts on specific publicly traded investments in an open forum. If you'll note, I very rarely (if ever) say anything good or bad about a specific company's securities... If you'd like to talk, drop me a PM and we'll chat.
