Marquis Daniels and the Mavs

This kid has been on absolute fire lately. But I heard that since the Mavs signed him to a one year deal as an undrafted rookie we're most likely not going to be able to resign him next year.

What are the exact details/reasons/rules on this?

So far all I can get out of it is for some reason the Mavs won't be able to pay him the amount other teams will be willing to pay him. Is that for cap reasons or is that a rule that has something to do with signing undrafted rookies?

LegFuJohnson:

I think it was to prevent a team from saying to a player... look, come here, sign this contract for one year for this low amount (it's all we can afford).  But then next year, we'll give you this maximum contract, since you can go over the cap to re-sign your own free agents.

The Timberwolves / Joe Smith rule.
