twiley
Big fan of Alsace. Alsace is graced with a phenomenon known as the rainshadow effect because the mountains help protect the vineyards from rain and wind. As a result, Alsace has a long, cool growing season and can boast the lowest rainfall in France which gives the wines very elegant and complex aromas. Another hallmark characteristic of Alsace is their variety of soils (limestone, granite, sandstone, schist and a few others) which not only help bring out the finest characteristics of each varietal but also allow one to identity a specific terroir when really diving into the region. Cheers!
