Ursa Majoris Posted October 14, 2009 Share Posted October 14, 2009 If you are reduced to finally installing a fresh OS from scratch, I would consider going to buy a new hard drive (It doesn't have to be hugh unless you need more space than you currently got) putting that in the computer and installing the new OS onto that hard drive. You then can make your old hard drive a slave and copy any files you need to keep onto the new one. Critically important point if you want to rescue data. The old drive can be attached externally after the OS is installed on the new drive. It might still be accessible as a non-boot drive.
