darin3
Not sure who will be on right now (Merry Christmas, almost!) but I am in dire need of some help here. I fear my situation is pretty grave. My laptop was just fine early last night, but came home to it booting with this error message: "A disk read error occured. Press Cntrl-Alt-Del to restart". In my Google research, it sounds like I may have a bad hard drive. Anyone got any ideas?

You might want to get a new hard drive and try slaving the old one, which is mentioned among the mountain of info on the link.
Thews40
Do you hear it clicking when it tries to boot up? A read error isn't that bad unless the OS is corrupted. If you have the original OS disk I'd try and boot from it and re-load the OS.
