Ramhock
Downed tree caused a power outage 2 nights ago. I guess the power surge protector didn't work. It won't turn on. My research shows it needs some attention, that I don't want to invest. My question, is there a way to retrieve the info from it, i.e. wifie tracks the bills on Quicken, etc? Thanx in advance. Scooby's Hubby
Did you pull a Clark Griswold? Oh, downed tree, my bad. http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http:/...ved=0CCEQ9QEwAQ Edited November 19, 2010 by Scooby's Hubby
ljbrun
OK, a dumb question. Have you tried removing the surge protector and plugging directly into an outlet?
buddahj
You'll have to remove the hard drive & install it in another CPU to find out if it's okay. If your lucky, it just fried the motherboard & power supply.
SayItAintSoJoe
I guess the lesson here is that all surge protectors are not created equal. Edited November 19, 2010 by SayItAintSoJoe
Ramhock
OK, a dumb question. Have you tried removing the surge protector and plugging directly into an outlet? My bad, should have added that everything else plugged into that strip was not affected.
ljbrun
Well, it good to hear that nothing else was affected. Good luck!

peepinmofo
Power rarely fries hard drives, at least in my experience. Chances are, you just need to put the drive in another PC and copy the data. You might be able to take it somewhere and have them do it cheap, or you can PM me and maybe Ill do it cheaper. redrumjuice
It is likely as simple as a power supply. Quick, cheap fix.
