Maybe a stupid question, but what happens to the material that enters a black hole?

It's stupid only if you consider basically unanswerable questions stupid.

 

For starters it's squeezed REAL tight as it goes in. (cue lame sex jokes) Beyond that nobody knows.

OK, truthfully now, most of the matter is added to the infinitely dense singularity, but some escapes in the form of Hawking radiation.
