delusions of grandeur
Okay, I know I'm bordering on Cowboyz1 territory with homer threads and comments on here, but given a couple recent developments, you can expect Ryan and all of the Falcons passing targets to continue to fly high this season.... And no, this has nothing to do with how unstoppable Julio looks, and how much it's opening things for everyone (well, almost everyone). No room to run: No surprise to Turner owners that the Falcons running game is looking abysmal. Turner looks slow and the O-line isn't giving any of the backs anything to work with. However, their pass-protection has been great, really a flip from past years. Grimes out for the year: with an achille's injury. This is a huge blow to the Falcons secondary, who were looking like one of the better ones in the league with the upgrade to Samuel opposite Grimes, which moved Dunta Robinson to the nickel where he could be more effective in both coverage and his strength, tackling. The secondary will again be a liability with Dunta on the outside and at nickel corner with Franks or Owens. Samuel has also gotten burned a few times, and of course is more of a play-maker than true cover corner, even moreso as he gets older. Ryan has also started to look somewhat mobile in the pocket, which had always been a weakness of his, and he's placing balls where only his receivers can get it (not that tough of a task when the O-line is finally giving him a chance to make his reads and not have to force it to his favorite targets). Finally, under Koeter, things are really starting to click as the training wheels are taken off, and Ryan can dictate the game with plenty of the no-huddle and audibles. It's setting up to be a special year for the Falcons' passing game. Edited September 10, 2012 by delusions of grandeur
matt770
Very pumped that I was able to land Ryan in my local league. Julio is our next uber-stud WR, probably ranked right along side Megatron next August.
Rileyrott
....and Manning's coming to town. Might be a shootout. RE: Turner. Any idea if Jacquizz gets more touches?
Joebirds55
With turner and fjax as my starters I'm depending on yesterday just being a bad game and turner coming back strong next week
Rileyrott
Unfortunately, I have Turner as my #2A in 1 league (Richardson #1, Ridley #2B). Looks like Ridley just got a promotion.
delusions of grandeur
....and Manning's coming to town. Might be a shootout. RE: Turner. Any idea if Jacquizz gets more touches? Quizz already started getting touches in the 4th quarter when they were trying to run down the clock, but Turner couldn't get it done. Problem was, Quizz really couldn't either, and it was on the O-line as much as anyone. Quizz did have a really nice 77-yard return where he showed some explosiveness, but that line is going to have to give both backs a lot more help before you can even think about either as a viable option in the running game. Quizz could carve out a PPR role and command more carries, but the risk there is that when the Falcons tried out Turner as a reciever in the preseason, he was actually catching everything, so there's a real chance of both destroying eachother's value, unless they begin to abandon Turner entirely. The plus side for Turner owners is that if the O-line can give him some holes, Turner is still a really tough guy to take down in the 2nd and 3rd levels, and I think the Falcons will give him every chance to turn it around... The risk is they already seem to be preparing for the possibility that he just doesn't have it anymore. Still will come down to how the O-line blocks for either back to have a chance for good production, IMO. (ETA: oh and yes, the Broncos/Falcons showdown is looking like it could be a barn-burner. Will be interesting to see after last night if Bailey/Porter can handle Roddy/Julio like they did Brown/Wallace. You know where my money is.)
