Why do some topic headings have orange

Computer question from a computer-challenged Huddler:

 

Why do most of the topic headings have orange boxes on the left and others don't??? I know it's a stupid question, but it's bugging me. If this question has come up before, I apologize.

 

Help a confused brutha out.

It means there are new posts to that thread that you haven't read yet. Click on that orange box and it will skip over the posts you have read and take you straight to the first unread post.
