Grits and Shins
Watching the Indy game ... Manning is crushed from the backside as he is pulling his arm back ... ball is loose ... Houston recovers the ball. Ruled an incomplete pass. Wait here comes the challenge by Houston. They win the challenge. BUT ... they don't get the ball because the play was blown dead. So instead of the original line of scrimmage the ball is now placed where the ball hit the ground and it's still Indy ball. As the head coach you HAVE to know the rules. You HAVE to know that even if you win the challenge here it buys you nothing but a couple of yards. BAD BAD BAD coaching. I saw the same thing happen last week too. Grits and Shins
Of course I think they should do away with replay and challenges altogether.
gspot
Of course I think they should do away with replay and challenges altogether. 607868[/snapback] How about doing away with the early whistles? Before the season started, officials were told to let the play finish out to its completion to avoid this type of "blown" dead BS. Its not a hard concept. Allow the play to run to completion and then BLOW the whistle. Simple fact is, teams are being jobbed by the officials. I agree with your point however, as I am more and more convinced that NFL coaches are simply "lifers" who have risen to the top by virtue of being "football guys" and Intelligence is not a factor. I wonder if any of these coaches have ever considered hiring a former official to be their replay guy upstairs? That way they could have someone who is completely versed in the rules telling them whether or not to challenge the play based on both the chance of a reversal and the rules involved. I bet every NFL city has at least two or three retired NFL officials.
