Chief
Miami Dolphins cornerback Will Poole is expected to miss the 2005 season with a knee injury suffered during minicamp. Poole was a leading candidate to replace Pro Bowl cornerback Patrick Surtain, traded last month to Kansas City. Source NFL.com
'canes2004
Really a non-issue. We couldn't afford to keep Surtain no matter what. Poole certainly looked the part, playing well last year in nickle and dime situations. He was the front runner to start opposite Maddisen. The Dolphins have Reggie Howard and Mario Edwards in camp. Plus they drafted rookie Travis Daniels from LSU. If they can't seem to find a replacement out of that group I wouldn't be surprised if the Dolphins went after Ty Law for a quick one year deal or even T-Buck if they get really desperate. The one positive is that in the new defensive schemes that will be implimented will no longer have the corners out on one-on-one's. More zones and shifting the safeties up and over from what I've heard. Plus with the new "no-contact" rules being strictly enforced, the need for a shut-down corner has deminished.
