Vikings | Taylor excited about start of season

Tue, 1 Aug 2006 14:43:24 -0700

Associated Press reports Minnesota Vikings RB Chester Taylor is looking forward to the start of the 2006 season. Head coach Brad Childress noted the team plans to feature a lot of different players this year, but he said the team brought Taylor on board as their starting tailback. Taylor showed up to training camp in shape. During practice, he has been running all over the place and catching passes out of the backfield.

...and this is all I needed to read.....he is now that much closer to my top 10....but still only in my top 15..

Took him in the Huddle Survivor--now if he and I can last 6 weeks till he gets a decent schedule we might have a chance at doing something this year

yeah...you really do need another quality back at the beginning of the season...

hopefully he can have some LJ2-like qualities where he can catch the ball 4 or 5 times for about 50 yds in those 'slow' games where he doesn't have much success running the ball...

LJ2 was ideal for this....

his value is very nice in a PPR league...

Chester Taylor should be taken in the first round. He will shatter all records for running backs this season. And I would stake my life on it.

Will be watching him closely myself. Will not however stake my life, my balls, or anything else on it.

no...he's being sarcastic due to our argument? about him 2 weeks ago I think....

he put Taylor on his avoid list and wanted his ego stroked for being original....

I was never huge on him but I think he might be moving up my cheatsheets. Maybe it was because I had Jamal Lewis last year. :D

see...he doesn't crack my top 10...but top 15 is fine....

but he shouldn't be any worse than say, 18th or so....IMO...

I tried something different and didn't go RB Rb as usual. I got Tom Brady, TO and Antonio Gates. Took Ced Benson in the 5th. Not really happy with the way things turned out. Was hoping that KJ would be there in the 4th but he went in the third. Hey, this is what mocks are for, seeing how different strategies pan out. At least they are for me.

edit: I had the 9th pick

I am pondering not going RB-RB as I normally do in my local....

if you took away Brady for a RB....that would have panned out nicely...

especially if you could land Brooks, Bledsoe or Delhomme....

oh, you could definitely land one of those QBs. I could have had Steven Jackson instead of Brady and would have had:

Brooks, Bledsoe or Delhomme

SJax

Chester Taylor

TO

Gates (though he did last ALOT longer in the third than he normally does)

I might just try that next time out...

that lineup is amazingly like what I am going for....

then maybe Horn/Mason/Housh maybe...

I actually fleshed out the WRs thusly:

6: Andre Johnson

8: Matt Jones

13: Michael Clayton

I also picked up Winslow

AJ, Clayton and Winslow were gems...

I would consider drafting them if the round is right....Winslow is definately a tricky one..

Here is the intersting thing. I actually do like Taylor. The guy has skills. He has potential.

I'm not even sure why I am down on him. But I have been playing this game for about 15 years, and after all that time I can almost smell a bust. I can't even define it.

Maybe it is the fact that he couldn't push Lewis aside in Baltimore. Maybe it is the fact that he has been in what I consider probably a negative situation in Baltimore for the first part of his career, and I perceive him to possibly be part of the problem. Maybe it is the fact that he has not proven that he can stay on the field as much as necessary to be a force in fantasy football. Maybe it is because there are other talented runners in the lineup. Maybe all of these things.

I just don't know what is, but I have a bad feeling about Taylor. I know he SHOULD be good. I know he COULD be good. But my instincts are telling me to avoid him, and they have the final say.

If I am in a flex league where I only have to start one RB, I am maybe taking a chance on Taylor in the 3rd round. (unless the relentless hype machine moves him up the ladder by draft time) But I am probably not counting on him to be my RB2 unless I am sure I can get another decent back in rounds 5-6.

I'm not totally off this guy, but I do consider it riskier than most, and not the iron clad lock that some seem to suggest.

Unless of course, you are playing in an 8 team league, where mistakes are covered up quickly with an avalanche of quality depth.

He!!, a 3 legged dog with epilepsy was a step up from Jamal last year..... And I agree with ratt, last year I jumped on some bigtime hype and was burned. I'm not convinced that Taylor (no matter whose balls are on the block) is the real deal.

I just took him with the 2.10 in a sixteen team ppr league. I got Portis at the 1.7 and all tier 1 WR's were gone and the RB crop was Jamal, Droughns, Chester, and FWP. My instincts were FWP doesn't get the looks at the goal line, I had Jamal last year and I just don't feel good about him, and Droughns will get a lot of touches which you want from RB2 but they lost Bentley and I felt Droughns upside was fairly limited. I went Taylor because they have a fairly soft schedule after the first few weeks, he will catch passes, and he could be huge. I felt I needed that to win my league.
