Randall
By Len Pasquarelli ESPN.com Veteran cornerback Al Harris, arguably the league's best coverage player who has never been selected to a Pro Bowl, has signed a two-year contract extension with the Green Bay Packers. The deal is an add-on to the five-year, $18.7 million extension that Harris signed in 2004, a contract that included about $7 million in guarantees. That extension still has three seasons remaining on it, through 2009. Financial details of the new extension were not yet available, but Harris told the Wisconsin State Journal that it includes two roster bonuses totaling $4.5 million, along with some Pro Bowl incentives. Under his existing contract, Harris was scheduled to earn base salaries of $2.2 million (for 2007), $2.85 million ('08) and $3 million ('09). It is not yet known if those base salaries are affected by the most recent extension. Harris, 32, sought to upgrade his contract last spring and summer and, toward that end, the ninth-year veteran skipped the optional segment of the Packers' offseason conditioning program under then-rookie coach Mike McCarthy. Team officials declined to address Harris' grievances with his contract and did not adjust it, and the veteran reported to training camp on time. Harris, who has become a fixture in Green Bay's secondary, combined with Charles Woodson, who was signed as an unrestricted free agent, to provide the Packers one of the NFL's premier cornerback tandems. From his right cornerback spot, Harris posted 41 tackles, three interceptions and 14 passes defensed, as he started all 16 games in Green Bay's 8-8 season. For his career, Harris has 378 tackles, 17 interceptions, 102 passes defensed and a pair of forced fumbles, while appearing in 144 games. Harris originally entered the NFL in 1998, with the Philadelphia Eagles, and, playing behind starters Troy Vincent and Bobby Taylor, established himself as one of the league's top nickel defenders. He was traded to Green Bay in 2003. Senior writer Len Pasquarelli covers the NFL for ESPN.com.

Bronco Billy
Helllllooooooo, Mike McKenzie, Grady Jackson, & Javon Walker (& Drew Rosenass)! This is what happens in Green Bay when you honor your contract and allow the Packers to plan with their cap through future years. Good for Harris, he deserves it. Good for Harris, he deserves it. Word. It was abundantly clear Harris was unhappy with his contract situation, but it didn't affect his play, which has remained at a high level. And it should continue, as speed isn't really his game - though, by the same token, if he loses a step, it might make more of a difference than it would to a faster player.
