Sgt. Ryan
Per ESPN radio, Dwight Freeney could be lost for the year, with an injury to his foot. This would be a devastating blow to the Colts chances of winning in the playoffs, as Freeney is such a force on defense, and even when he doesnt make the play himself, the QB has to get rid of the ball earlier than he wants, because Freeney is closing. Sgt. Ryan
now there is a link of the main site - espn.com http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3108696 Source: Freeney might have suffered Lisfranc injury By John Clayton ESPN.com (Archive) Updated: November 13, 2007, 6:33 PM ET Comment Email Print Can the Colts Survive Without Freeney? The Indianapolis Colts already expect Dwight Freeney not to play for several weeks because of a left foot injury, but now there's reason to believe the Pro Bowl defensive end's season might be over. Though more tests have to be completed for the team to make a final determination, a source said Tuesday that Freeney might have suffered a Lisfranc injury in Sunday's loss to the San Diego Chargers. If additional tests verify the initial diagnosis of the midfoot injury, the source said Freeney will need season-ending surgery. Players who have suffered Lisfranc injuries, even those not needing surgical repair, have needed months to rehabilitate. In the wake of Freeney getting hurt, the Colts didn't take any chances; on Monday, they placed a waiver claim on defensive end Simeon Rice. The 34-year-old Rice was let go by the Broncos on Friday after he requested his release. On his weekly radio show Monday night, Colts president Bill Polian said the initial timetable for Freeney's recovery would be three to four weeks. The Colts signed Freeney in July to a six-year deal, paying an average of $12 million. He has 21 tackles and 3½ sacks in Indianapolis' 7-2 start. Freeney experienced a lot of pain Sunday when he suffered the injury. He had to be carted to the locker room and left Qualcomm Stadium wearing a boot. He told friends he could have been hurt when a Chargers blocker stepped on his foot when he was making a spin move. Swelling in the foot is preventing a final determination of the injury. But if the prognosis is a Lisfranc, Freeney would be finished for this season, although the prognosis of a return in the 2008 would be good. Senior writer John Clayton covers the NFL for ESPN.com. Information from ESPN.com senior writer Len Pasquarelli was included in this report.

tonyr0802
What's the deal with all the Lisfranc injuries? It's something I'd never heard of until the past couple of years, has it been a common injury in years past and I just wasn't aware? Seems like there's at least 1 a year the past couple years. Chargerz
What's the deal with all the Lisfranc injuries? This kind of fracture/dislocation of the bones of the arch of the foot was first documented by Napoleon's doctor (Lisfranc) almost two centuries ago but is seen more often these days due to improvements in the imaging tests that are done to diagnose it. In years past the injury was described as a "severe sprain" based on plain x-rays alone, but now CT's and MRI's can pick up Lisfranc injuries with greater accuracy. CaptainHook
FWIW, Marlin Jackson was also diagnosed with a lisfranc injury after the Pats game. He played on Sunday against the Bolts. You just never know.

CaptainHook
Indy Star is now reporting that it is "ankle" surgery, and he is likely done for the season. link
CaptainHook
So far the Colts have lost their starting DT, Booger McFarland, their starting stongside linebacker, Rob Morris, and their starting DE Dwight Freeney. All for the season. Add to it the injuries to Harrison, Ugoh, and Keiaho for extended periods of time. This is why it's hard to repeat. tonyr0802
Lisfranc confirmed The Colts confirmed Wednesday that DE Dwight Freeney has a Lisfranc fracture in his left foot. He was placed on injured reserve, ending his season.Freeney, who was injured while doing one of his patented spin moves against Chargers LT Marcus McNeill in Week 10, will need to have surgery and risks missing a large chunk of next season. Bill Swerski
Wow, this really sucks. Lisfranc were potentially career-ending up until about 10 years ago. Isn't that what Robert Edwards suffered on the beach at the Pro Bowl back in the day? Man, I just hope that he's back to normal in '09. Geez, RIGHT after giving him a blockbuster contract. Simeon Rice is washed up, so he's not going to help much. Mathis will get double-teamed and the Colts secondary is going to eventually get picked apart. I hate to say it but, with all of these injuries (Freeney, Booger, Morris, Marvin, Ugoh, Gonzalez, etc.), this is beginning to look like a re-tooling season. Yeah, the Colts will win the division again and maybe a playoff game, but I can't see them competing with the Pats withso many key players either on IR or banged up and at about 80% on the field. And, of course, this all has to happen right at the time that the defense is looking downright dominant.

pseudolefty
That's a tough one for any team to swallow. I haven't seen a pass rusher dominate like Freeney has since he came in to the league. He gave even the best left tackles in the league fits. At least the Colts still have Mathis. Good luck in the recovery.
