Kansas State 2000
IRVING – It took some time, but the Dallas Cowboys and Pro Bowl safety Ken Hamlin have agreed on a long-term contract extension. Named the Cowboys' franchise player before free agency, Hamlin agreed to a six-year deal worth $39 million with $15 million guaranteed, according to two sources. The franchise tag was worth $4.396 million. The Cowboys placed the tag on Hamlin to not only secure his rights for 2008, but to help them re-sign left tackle Flozell Adams as well as cornerback Terence Newman, Marion Barber and Terrell Owens. Had Hamlin not signed by 3 p.m. Tuesday, then he could not sign a multi-year agreement until after the season. Hamlin joined the Cowboys last year as a free agent after spending his first four seasons in Seattle. He quickly established himself as a defensive leader and earned his first Pro Bowl trip. He finished last season with 102 tackles, five interceptions and 14 pass deflections. His contract is in line with the six-year, $39 million deal Gibril Wilson signed with Oakland in March. Because he did not sign the tender, Hamlin did not take part in the team's off-season conditioning program, organized team activities or the mandatory minicamp, but he had regular contact with the defensive coaches. With Hamlin's deal done, the Cowboys can turn their attention to their six draft picks. The team generally waits until the week before training camp before talks heat up. The Cowboys fly to Oxnard, Calif., on July 24. Edited July 15, 2008 by Kansas State 2000
bushwacked
15 million guaranteed? Not sure how he played for the Boys last year, but the Seahawk safety play improved immensely last year, in no small part to letting Hamlin move on.
Puddy
I thought he was pretty good in L.A. Law.
Avernus
great hitter, but misses a lot of big plays...
Bronco Billy
He ought to fit nicely into the SS slot that used to be Williams'. Then maybe DAL can play a FS who can actually cover someone.
Bachi Boy
With all of the deals that these Dallas players have been getting, Jerry Jones must be pretty convinced that the cap is not coming back.
Capt. Stanky
He ought to fit nicely into the SS slot that used to be Williams'. Then maybe DAL can play a FS who can actually cover someone. It's always seemed like Roy Williams is out of position. He should be a weakside LB. I believe he has the size as he's listed as 6 foot 230. Obvioulsy that's not going to work in the 3-4 that Dallas runs. Dallas should look to trade him to a 4-3 team. As a Bengals fan I'd love to see Williams in tiger stripes beside KRivers.
