tazinib1
I'm liking 2 very key moves on defense made by Houston this year. It's no secret how bad the Texans secondary was last year. In fact, if you were unaware you probably should start paying better attention. They were the poster child for the matchup game if you were rotating QB's or WR's. Kareem Jackson and Glover Quinn gave up 900+ yards....each while giving up 11 TD's combined. Yikes Bernard Pollard gave up 6 TD's and the rotating duo of Troy Nolan and Eugene Wilson were horrid as well. Injury to DeMarco Ryans certainly didn't help matters. We'll see how well Cushing and Mario Williams adapt into a new 3-4 scheme as well. But thats a lot of talent on the defensive line. I'm talking about Daniel Manning and Jonathon Joseph. Both were rated top 5 at there position for 2010. No longer will teams be able to dissect the Texans via the pass. Do they have enough to overtake the Colts for the division? I'm not sure but its going to fun to watch....they certainly have the offensive power to give it a try....and a secondary to shut em down. Goopster24
Um, who voted Manning top 5 at safety? Available or what? Edited August 8, 2011 by Goopster24
tazinib1
Um, who voted Manning top 5 at safety? Available or what? Just re-checked..Manning was given a #7 overall rating behind only Mikell,Huff,Weddle,Landry,Reed and Polamalu. Being a Chicago fan you might disagree and I no Bears homer but Manning yielded 0 TD's and only 22 receptions for 214 yards. That is a MAJOR upgrade. bpwallace49
Um. Don't overlook that they are changing to a 3-4 with a shortened season, which won't help But those are two good signings, and good points tazzy.
CaptainHook
Didn't Manning lose his job towards the end of the year in Chicago last year?
darin3
Joseph is no Asomugha, but he came cheaper and is a hugh upgrade from what they had previously. As a Bear fan, I was a little bummed Manning was allowed to walk. And FWIW, per Rotoworld: Manning finished No. 5 overall in Pro Football Focus' 2010 cover safety rankings He's not the power-hitter that Pollard is, but is a major upgrade in pass coverage. The Texans D got a whole lot better this off-season.
tazinib1
Didn't Manning lose his job towards the end of the year in Chicago last year? No but he was rotated often. Chicago has used a 3rd round draft pick on S in back to back years so letting him go wasn't a major step back in there opinion. He was one of only 5 safeties to play in at least 75% of the teams snaps last year. So although he might not have played S the entire year, you can be assured he was on the field. bpwallace49
Manning is also a very good special teams player.

tazinib1
And can return kicks. (or is that what you meant? ) This is what I miss when I'm not a homer. He returned 34 kicks for 849yds for a 24.4 average.
