Rattay, Barlow out for 49ers' next game

SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) -- Tim Rattay and Kevan Barlow will sit out the San Francisco 49ers' game at Arizona on Sunday, leaving the NFL's worst team without its starting quarterback and running back.Rattay, who missed three games earlier in the season with two different injuries, now has a torn fascia muscle in his right foot. He must keep weight off his foot for two weeks, coach Dennis Erickson said Wednesday, likely ruling him out for at least two games.Rattay had his best game of the season in the 49ers' previous meeting with the Cardinals, going 38-of-57 for a career-high 417 yards. He rallied San Francisco from a 16-point deficit in the final minutes of the fourth quarter for the 49ers' only win, 31-28 in overtime.Barlow got a concussion in last Sunday's loss to St. Louis. He has played every game this season, but has been largely ineffective, with the league's lowest yards-per-carry average for a starting running back.Ken Dorsey will make his fourth start of the season in Rattay's place. Dorsey has struggled in his first season as Rattay's backup, throwing four interceptions and no touchdown passes.``He never makes excuses,'' Erickson said. ``He's tough, (but) particularly against Chicago, he was hurt. I believe he'll be better than he was.''Rookie Cody Pickett will be Dorsey's backup, and the 49ers (1-11) signed former third-stringer Brandon Doman to the practice squad Wednesday.Maurice Hicks, on the 49ers' practice squad until last month, will get his first NFL start in Barlow's spot. He has rushed for 144 yards and one touchdown this season while also returning kicks.``They've both played. It's not like they haven't played,'' Erickson said of Dorsey and Hicks. ``Maurice is going to have to carry the load. That's something he hasn't done before.''
