Avernus
One of the Hosts on the 610 WIP afternoon show just reported that the offer the Eagles made to Westbrook (that he turned down) was just slightly smaller than the contract Deuce McAllister got from the Saints. $9 million up-front and over $4 mil/season. What the heck is wrong with Westbrook that he thinks he's worth all this money? He just doesn't get that he's not a top 5 back in the nfl. You can listen to 610 WIP from their website http://www.610wip.com/ it looks like his agent (also Buckhalter's agent) is looking to play devil's advocate.. PaulOttCarruth
I think I read somewhere that Westbrook has to report to training camp by Monday or he will lose his ability to become an unrestricted free agent next year. (sorry no link). If that's the case, he's negotiating on borrowed time. That makes his passing on this contract even more surprising. Duchess Jack
He's lucky if he is the 15th best back in the league.
Avernus
He's lucky if he is the 15th best back in the league. 906696 he's in a great system that fits his ability.... let him play for a team that will ask him to run up the gut 20 times a game and see how long he lasts... so long Westbrook...hello Buckhalter and Ryan Moats
PaulOttCarruth
Found it. WESTBROOK'S TACTICS MAKE NO SENSE Though the decision of T.O. to report to Eagles camp on Monday was the biggest news in Philly, the oddest item was by far the decision of running back Brian Westbrook not to show up. The move was met by league insiders with plenty of head scratching. Westbrook surprised the Eagles by signing his one-year restricted free agent tender and reporting for a mandatory minicamp in June. But if he hadn't signed the tender, he would have been fully within his rights to stay away. And the same thing applies for training camp. If he hadn't signed the tender, he wouldn't be in violation of his one-year, $1.43 million contract, and thus not subject to fines. Sure, the Eagles could have played hardball with him and reduced the tender if he hadn't signed it by a certain date, but the decision to accept the one-year contract and then not show is confusing to many around the league. Most folks with knowledge of the NFL system expect that Westbrook's holdout will be short-lived. As we explained on Monday night, the failure of a player under contract to report within 30 days prior to the start of the regular season loses an accrued year. And since it takes four years to become an unrestricted free agent, Westbrook will be stuck at year number three through 2006 if he fails to report by August 8. notamomo
if that's the case, he's just letting his anger get the best of him.. 906693 What's he angry about? Having to watch TO practice in tights everyday? The Eagles don't overpay, won't overpay. And always find a way to replace the "studs" that are created by their system. No if Big Andy can just find a way to win the big game. No, not NFC Championship. The BIG game. One step at a time for the Eagles, but at least they're consistent. Advice to Westbrook...sign on the dotted line.
