KevinL
OK how do you use these guys in the playoffs? Are there too many days off to stay with a 5 man rotation? Kevin Millwood is 8-11 but leads the AL in ERA with 2.97. His ERA over his last 5 starts is 1.85. He's in. Cliff Lee is 17-4, leading the team in wins, with a 3.75 ERA. His ERA over his last 7 starts is 2.25. He's in. CC Sabathia was horrible from May-July. He's 14-10 with a 4.07 ERA. But he has been incredible since August 10. In his last 8 starts he is 7-1 with a 1.41 ERA. He's got to be in. Jake Westbrook is 15-14 with a 4.60 ERA. His last 7 starts he is 5-2 with a 4.26 ERA. What a slacker. I guess he's your long man with 15 wins on the season? Number 5 starter Scott Elarton is 11-7 with a 4.38 ERA. He had a couple bad outings in late August but made a slight adjustment and is 4-0 with a 0.92 ERA. He has only allowed 26 baserunners (20 hits, 6 BB) over 29 1/3 innings. How can you take the ball away from this guy. It seems like most playoff rotations lately try to go with just 3 guys. Can my Indians use 4 or even 5? By the way, minor league callup / spot starter Jason Davis is 3-1 with a 4.24 ERA in 4 starts this year. Hasn't pitched in the bigs since July 4 when he started against Detroit, tossing 6 shut-out innings.
chiefjay
Playoffs? But to answer your question I am sure the Indians would use a 4 man rotation. Edited September 22, 2005 by chiefjay
LegFuJohnson
Usually you use 4. Some teams use 3, if they can't trust their 4th starter. I think Elarton will be in the pen. There are too many days off to use 5 different starters in the same series. They are certainly welcome to if they want. 51Butkus
I think they'll all be home watching the playoffs on TV in about a week and a half! Go Sox!
LegFuJohnson
Awesome run in August and September... but you can't be losing home games at the end of the year to a team that has nothing to play for.
KevinL
Problem is (and has been all year) no offense othre than the long ball. Incredibly poor situational hitting. In the last 5 losses (ignoring the 6-0 win) we scored only 10 runs. Hit a club record 53? HR in September (most ever in any 1 month) and still just couldn't get it done in the end. Pretty much the entire core is back. We have an option on 2B Belliard, and then there's 4 vet pitchers who are FA's (Millwood, Elarton, Wickman, Howry). Most amazing thing for the Indians was no SP injuries. All 5 starters started 30 games or more. Wait 'til next year.
