drafti versus bye weeks

Recommended Posts

It's becasue that is a very minor consideration.. owners will still do one of the three things owners do regarding draft strategy and bye weeks:

1. Purposely selct players that have their bye spread out over different weeks, thus taking a minimal hit at any given time.

2. Focus on getting players with the same bye week, so there is only one week not at full strength.

3. Ignore it completely until after the draft, then scramble if there is a bye week issue.

hi there- I've never seen an opinion concerning taking into consideration the fact that most bye weeks have FOUR teams with an open date, BUT weeks 6 and 7 have SIX teams off- any thought regarding draft strategy?

Bye weeks definitly can be a factor drafting. However, I think you also need to look at the player. You dont want to reach for someone else who isnt worth picking because the player you want has the same bye as someone else on your team. I have both LJ and Lamont as keepers, they both have week 3 off. Because of that I will try to avoid drafting someone else in the first 6 rounds with the same bye. However, I also dont plan on drafting another RB in the first 2 rounds because of this. I think you need to focus on the best starting lineup as possible. However, picking at 2.7, TO or Randy Moss could be tempting but will set me up for a very tough week 3. I think you also need to remember that atleast half the other owners will be scrambling in weeks 6 and 7 as well. Do your best to balance out the bye weeks but dont reach for the wrong player because of them.
