Redskins: Portis misses practice, says he'll play

The News

Running back Clinton Portis missed his second straight day of practice on Thursday, but reiterated his intention of playing against the Cowboys on Sunday. ""As far as I know I'm playing," Portis told the Associated Press. "Unless something changes between now and Sunday."

Our View

The Redskins are being cautious with the most valuable offensive player, and rightfully so. Portis played, and looked healthy, in Monday night's season opener against the Vikings, so fantasy owners should expect him to be available on Sunday. Although he will likely get more than the 10 carries he received in week one, we don't foresee a full load for Portis just yet.

Bengals: Housh sits out Thursday

The News

Wide receiver T.J. Houshmandzadeh missed his second straight practice on Thursday with a lingering heel injury, the Bengals website reported. He remains listed as probable on the injury report.

Our View

In addition to his own value, Housh's return should mean good things for the fantasy production of both Carson Palmer and Chad Johnson. If he can play, Housh has a good matchup against the Browns on Sunday.

Buccaneers: Cadillac added to injury report

The News

Running back Cadillac Williams was added to the Buccaneers' injury report on Thursday because of back spasms, the team's website reported. Williams, who was pulled in the second half of the Bucs' season-opening loss because of the spasms, is listed as probable.

Our View

Caddy was unimpressive in his season debut before leaving the game and does not have a favorable matchup in week two against the Falcons. If you have a third option at running back, benching Williams this week isn't a bad idea.

Panthers: Smith misses another practice

The News

Steve Smith missed practice again on Thursday because of a strained right hamstring and remains questionable for Sunday's game against the Vikings, the Associated Press reported.

Our View

The chances of Smith suiting up on Sunday get slimmer with every practice he misses. We'd be surprised if the Panthes don't downgrade him to doubtful if he sits out again on Friday.

Giants: Shockey practices

The News

Giants tight end Jeremy Shockey returned to practice on Thursday after missing Wednesday's session due to an ankle injury, the team's official web site reported. He's listed as probable for Sunday's game in Philadelphia.

Our View

Shockey played through the bum ankle last week and scored. Fantasy owners should feel safe counting on him again this Sunday.

Eagles: Westbrook leaves practice with injured knee

The News

Eagles running back Brian Westbrook left practice on Thursday due to inflammation in his knee. The team's official web site believes the injury is minor. Westbrook is listed as probable for Sunday's home game against the Giants.

Our View

We always panic a little when the injury-plagued Westbrook is nicked up, but it sounds like fantasy owners should still count on Brian for week two at this point.

Steelers: Ward plans to practice Thursday

The News

Wide receiver Hines Ward was the only Steeler held out of Wednesday's practice, but he told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette he intends to join them for Thursday's session. "The extra day, from playing Thursday to having a full week off, is really going to help me in the long run," Ward told the Post-Gazette. "I'm feeling good and I'm close to getting 100 percent."

Our View

Ward is listed as probable on the official injury report due to the hamstring issues that kept him out of the preseason. However, he played and scored in last week's season opener, and we fully expect him to be in the lineup this Monday as well.

Titans: Henry gets the boot

The News

Running back Travis Henry missed Wednesday's practice, sporting a protective boot on the sidelines to guard his injured toe. He is listed as questionable for the Titans' week two game against the Chargers.

Our View

The Titans must have matching shoe contracts: one with Reebok, per the NFL, and one with whomever manufactures these protective boots they go through like third-graders through Buster Browns. With LenDale White expected back for this one and the Chargers sporting a very good run defense, not to mention Chris Brown still being the starter… well, there's just no incentive to plug Henry into your fantasy lineup this week at all.

The News

Good to read that, thanks!

Chargers: Foley's blood-alcohol level was 0.233

09/14/06 09:32 PM

THE NEWS

Chargers linebacker Steve Foley had a blood-alcohol level of 0.233 percent, nearly three times California's legal limit of 0.08 percent, when he was shot Sept. 3 outside his home. Prosecutors on Thursday noted the level in an affidavit for a search warrant as they requested a blood sample from Foley on suspicion that he was using performance-enhancing drugs when he was shot and seriously wounded by an off-duty police officer.

Our View

Prosecutors must think Foley was experiencing an alcohol induced fit of 'roid rage the night he was shot, and if Foley was using steroids, his problems have only just begun. Foley did his best "Frank the Tank" impression, but was shot with real bullets and not just a tranquilizer dart. No Steve, KFC is not still open.
