MM23
Will this help or hurt Javon Walker? I'm hoping he can hit Walker with those deep balls that Jake overthrew by 5 yds
SaintsFanUnfortunately
It helps him. It can't be any worse than Jake!
lock_it_up
I have the same concern. Word on Cutler is he has a great arm and throws the deep ball well. I hope it helps. Don't want the Leinart effect (minus yesterday).
Fatman
Really hard to say - Jake seemed to target Walker a ton. Cutler may spread the ball around more...
joeyd524@msn.com
and remember cutler is a rook with no experience,he'll be shaky at times but will hit the long ball on occasion,i would'nt expect too much from the cutler to walker connection, not this year Edited November 27, 2006 by joeyd524@msn.com
let'sgobucks
Conventional wisdom says coaches won't let new QBs throw deep, preferring short passes to TEs to build their confidence. But as a Walker owner, I'm hoping Shanahan flouts conventional wisdom here as in all other areas...
giantsfan
I think Walker will be fine. They have a nice schedule moving forward and simply put Walker is their best player on O. Not their best receiver but their best player on O period. He will get his IMO.

If they have to throw to score, they will do it. Shanahan will work hard to make his first round draft pick Cutler successful. And they need to take the handcuffs off sooner than later so that he can be battle tested for the playoffs. I think their defense is good enough to work Cutler in at a pretty good pace. lock_it_up
Not their best receiver but their best player on O period. little contradicting?
giantsfan
little contradicting? I should have said not JUST their best receiver but their best overall player on O.
giantsfan
Don't get me wrong I don't know if Walker will be a top 5 WR from today forward with the rookie but top 10 sure why not.
