I assume you're talking about a DLP or LCD set?

 

CRT RPTVs don't have lamps. The CRT guns, if properly maintained and not run in "torch mode" will last the lifetime of the set. CRTs are very rarely the thing that goes wrong when RPTVs break down.

how often have you had to change the lamp- do you get them online

 

Not had to....yet. Since my TV is no longer made, I'm anticipating trouble getting one. The maker was only supplying those that could prove their's was broken last time I checked.

That's good I guess - how long have you had the set? Friend of mine is going on five years.

I just switched this week to LCD from rear projection CRT. I was tired of messing with convergence, focus and cleaning the guns.

 

It looks like you can buy just about any of them here. I'm not sure how their prices are, but it's a start.
