MikesVikes
Last update: March 18, 2007 – 9:59 PM IDITAROD Veteran disqualified for abusing his dogs Two-time runner-up Ramy Brooks was disqualified Sunday from the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race for abusing his dogs. Brooks, 38, hit each of his 10 dogs with a trail marking lathe, similar to a surveyor's stake, after two refused to get up and continue running on an ice field, race marshal Mark Nordman said in Nome. One of Brooks' dogs died the next day on the trail. Witnesses reported the incident to race officials. It happened Tuesday near Golovin, about 90 miles from the end of the 1,100-mile sled dog race in Nome. link I wonder how you have to treat your dogs to win this thing. skylive5
Not positive mind you... but if I remember correctly... Brooks has always had a rep as a harsh taskmaster. Don't think he ever took it to this extreme though.
