Complete opposite- NW weather sucks, and I am born and raised there- take away the summers- and it is not good at all. This past winter was miserable- clouds and rain for days on end, and this will go on until the end of June. Personally, I am active, I like the sun, getting out and doing stuff. I will take the dry heat of the desert all day long over the NW weather.

Like mentioned above- there are sacrifices in every place, no doubt. 8 months out of the year? what the he11 are you talking about- the weather sucks 8 months out of the year- u got it backwards like usual Swerski.

I know yer a transplant from Indiana- so I will give ya a break there, but let's not go overboard on NW weather.

I find it amusing that you're telling me that my subjective personal preferences are "wrong." :D

It's a good thing that you don't live in the Northeast, Midwest, or the Plains because you obviously have no idea what a "miserable" winter is like.

Holy hyperbole, Batman! :D

you don't have to wake up for 4-6 months of freezing cold and snow, maybe it'd be a different story...

Where the hell did you live, the Yukon? :D

I grew up inthe Philly area and from December through March, you could usually count on cold, maybe snow, and highs around the 40s to 50s on a good day. Moving to California weather-wise was like dying and going to heaven. :D

Good luck finding an affordable house in California, especially the Bay Area and Orange/San Diego Counties. I'd love to live in less-expensive Northern California (Redding, Eureka, etc.), but there aren't any jobs out there.

I've done a little window shopping in Seattle, and trust me, it ain't exactly frugal living there, either.

Which you will ACTUALLY do when an earthquake sends LA and the Bay Area into the Pacific Ocean.

Some of the biggest increases in U.S. housing currently are happening in Seattle.

The market was insane back when I visited 6 or 7 years ago; I didn't do any checking on prices this past November, but I can't imagine it has gone backwards.

Being born and raised in the NW- I can't really comment on the weather in the NE, and Midwest- all I know is I am thru with Seattle weather for a while.

I really have no deisre to ever experience a miserable winter- thanks though.

On a side note it is 84 today- :D

Oh, the wife and I are window-shopping in Oregon right now and, wow, $200,000 gets you a decrepit piece of crap out here unless you're in some small town in the foothills - or way out in the desert in the eastern part of the state. But So Cal and the Bay area are, by far, the worst.

Yer exxagerating a bit..the winter this year rarely had more than a few days of rain in a row without at least a minimal sun break of a day or two. And the springs here get quite nice too. The window of good weather is bigger than 4 months out of the year. You also fail to acknowledge that the NW climate changes substantially a mere 100 miles tp the east side in the rain shadow of the Cascades. The diversity of climate and land types up here is absolutely astounding.

:D -there is no way you live in Seattle. Maybe Spokane, maybe Yakima- but not Seattle. What in the world are you talking about?? this winter was one of the worst in the history of the city? are you outta yer mind?

2006 - in review- started in Jan '06 with 27 days in a row of rain....good times

Nov'06 had 15 inches of rain- the wettest month EVER, not to mention the wind storms and chit.

there were zero sunny days in Nov/Dec 2006.

A clip from KOMO4 -

We went all of November and December without an official sunny day in Seattle, defined as 30% or less cloud cover. Although Dec. 28th was close and was sunny for parts of Seattle, at the airport, it was foggy long enough to slide the day into the "partly cloudy" category. The last official sunny day was October 31. I believe this is the first time we've gone back-to-back months with 0 sunny days.

I love Seattle, will always be home, but the weather?? ehh not so much. The city rocks, has many great qualities- hot women and good weather are unfortunately not one of them.

I don't consider 69% clear skies a non-sunny day. I just don't happen agree with your subjective opinion and you are exxagerating. :D

I grew up in central WA, lived in high desert country for the last 5 years before moving back to Bellingham last August. So yeah....I can atest to what the Western Washington winter was like momo. :D

You're equating Seattle's weather to that of the entire region. As bushwacked correctly pointed out, Seattle's climate is not representative of the entire Northwest. Spokane, Bend, and Boise are extremely dry and sunny (I think that Bend averages over 300 sunny days per year). Heck, even Medford is a lot less wet and cloudy than Seattle.

This is great, a guy from Indiana giving geography and atmospherice science advice on my home state, Seattle and the NW- Swerski, yer expert knowledge knows no bounds. Bored at the MENSA forums?

Back to the topic at hand- yeah, I think the gradual migration away from the rust belt will change the locations of some franchises.

Phoenix is now the #5 largest city I believe- Vegas is on the verge of exploding once they come to an agreement with the casino's and sports betting, which will happen soon IMO - look for an NBA franchise there once they build a new arena.

This is great, a guy from Seattle not knowing that not all of his home state is cloudy and rainy from November through March. You must've flunked geography in grade school. :D
