dmarc117
stop all unnecessary road construction!!!! is 94 ever not under construction?!? made the trip to in-laws yesterday from chicago to nw of detroit. was at a standstill for 45 minutes on 94 just past 69. they are completely redoing the entire east bound lanes for about 5 miles. having driven this road many times, i never thought that it needed a complete redo. anyone have any figures about how much is alotted to highway construction? seemd that they are redoing the roads every few years. some spots need it, others cleary dont!!! The Holy Roller
In Missouri the DOT has erected milemarkers every two-tenths of a mile along the interstates AND contructed cable barricades in the medians. Complete waste of our money in my not-so-humble opinion. I wish they were redoing road surfaces.
The Holy Roller
Forgot to add that Missouri casinos have billboards up declaring they contributed over $287 million to Missouri education last year, too. Simply amazing.
Big John
A lot of times, roadway deterioration is below the surface and thus not visible. Don't know if that is the case there. Politics often determine which raods get fixed first. Plus Interstates and other freeways usually get priority, due to high traffic and they are commerce routes. There have been increasing instances of fatal accidents on freeways on wider grass medians due to an inattenive (sleeping?) driver crossing over the median. A few highway departments are putting cable barriers in problem areas. They can catch those errant vehicles and are a lot cheaper then erecting concrete or rigid metal barriers found on narrower medians. Mile markers serve 2 purposes - to inform the drivers to their relative locations; and to inform law enforcement or emergency crews to vehicle locations. Placing them closer than 1 mile apart helps the latter purpose (and adding the route number to that helps a lost driver calling 911 to his location). Egret
Michigan roads are always under repair and always look to be in a state of disrepair.

Dang engineers take all the fun out of complaining.
