bass fishing

Need some help ..doing most of my vacation up in lake george from a pier ...catching a ton of sunnies and perch's from the pier on worms and power bait

 

My question is from the pier which goes out about 10ft into the lake is it possible for me to catch bass and if so what should use as bait and what technique

 

Next question if I get use the rowboat hotel provides there is an area with banks , rocks ..is it good to try and catch bass there and if so what should I use for baot ( live and fake ) ?

You will be hard pressed to catch bass or trout fro the pier.

For bass, find a bouy marking rocks and fish there. Use worms or crawfish as bait with a spinner, bright green or orange. Cast and troll, or keep reeling in slow.

For trout, find a marshy area. Fallen trees, that sort of thing. Trolling works best, worms for bait, and a shiny spinner, silver or gold.

 

Fishing in Lake George itself is ok. If you are really pumped for fishing, head to Schroon Lake or one of the surrounding areas that are less populated. The farther north you head the less people. You can also fish Lake George well from Bolton Landing, or the other side (non-tourist side of the lake).

 

As for a boat, a rowboat will be fine if you're up for it.

You probably won't catch trout from the pier or even with the rowboat this time of year (they are very deep). But, in Lake George you should be able to catch some nice smallmouth bass almost anywhere. Look for them in 8 to 12 feet of water on rocks. Anywhere you see rocky bottom (pretty much the whole darn lake) they will be there. Easiest way to catch them is with live crawfish or dobbies. They luv em. Keep your bait just off bottom or they will crawl under the nearest rock and snag you.

 

Of course, you could always hire one of the many local guides and knock em dead....but pricey.
