Dragon
Here is the short version - need a recommendation for a Basketball shoe for my high school daughter that offers EXTREMELY solid ankle support without weighing a ton. She will be wearing an ankle brace for the first couple of months, but I want something more. Any suggestions?
Atlanta Cracker
I'm none of those things you mentioned but I did sleep not too far away from a Holiday Inn Express last night. As such my recommendation would be Chuck Taylor high tops. Pretty sure you can get them in pink too.
Big Country
New styles come out all the time so it will be hard to give a specific brand and style reccomendation, but, from my year's of playing and playing mroe recently (and, dealing with injured ankles over the years) I have found that with a very good ankle brace (I use I believe McDavid wraps that mimic taping the ankle, they have the highest protection level) is the key. I currently have a decent pair of Reebok basketball shoes that I like (throughout high school was also partial to crappy shoes from spammers), but, part of the reason I went with the Reebok's was that I was able to find a pair that fit well (wide width) and was comfortable, and fit well with the ankle brace on. So, I would really reccomend Reebok now. I prefer 3/4 top shoes (I don;t like full high top shoe, low cut will not provide the ankle support you desire). BC, Thanks for the brand name of the ankle wrap - I'll give it a try. She messed up her ankle pretty good, so I'm looking for every preventitive measure I can take, especially since this is her first significant ankle injury. There used to be an addidas sneak (forum?) that had awesome ankle support but I haven't seen them around in a while. Thanks again!

That is the best support you can have.
Big Country
Have the trainer tape it every single time she steps on the court. That is the best support you can have. Good info here. Go to a sporting goods store. THe protective gear has rankings detailing the level of protection. The ankle wraps I have have the highest ranking. They are lace up braces with wraps that go over and around the ankle and foot from both directions and also across the top of the foot (well, above the ankle). Since going to these braces, and making sure I had comfortable well fitted shoes when I played, I have not had an ankle injury since even though I have come close with landing on peoples feet, etc. I do believe the ankle brace helped in those cases. Also, make sure she is fully recovered from the ankle injury before she does too much on it. In high school I did not allow my ankle to properly recover from a fairly significant injury and it still bothers me at times to this day.
