Sugar Gliders

We were at the Meadowlands fair today and there was a booth set up selling sugar gliders. I never heard of them before but we were playing with one and I loved the little bastard. They say they are very easy to maintain, compatable with other domestic animals, and a fun and loyal little pet. We have 2 dogs and 2 birds and my house is a little upside down right now with my in laws health issues but down the line we might consider one of these pets. Does anyone own one or have any experience with them ? I read up on some of the drawbacks of owning one but I was looking for some personal experiences.

I don't have personal experience but I did a lot of research on them a while back... I was looking to buy a couple but never did.

Couple of things that I remember:

They are nocturnal and they can get a little loud at night... they have a little bark to them.

They are very social animals and it is recommended that you always buy them in pairs so that they don't get lonely.

You have to be good about cleaning their space each day or they can begin to smell (like any other animal really).

Get guinea pigs if your kids are old enough to be responsible. Friendly, don't bite, clean and are satisfied with a clean hutch, fresh food and fresh water. They are delicate but older kids can handle them just fine.
