Clubfoothead
If due north is 12 on your watch, this star or planet is at about 5. It's bright as heck. I thought it was a plane at 1st but it is stationary.

The Irish Doggy
space, the final frontier Jupiter rises shortly before midnight in the southeastern sky, and stays up the rest of the night in Sagitarrius. It is slowly growing in brightness, reaching -2.7 magnitude by the end of the month. That's about as bright as it can get, outshining all other planets except Venus. cliaz
I believe that is Jupiter. Last summer the wife and I were sitting out on our back deck at dusk and this bright object appeared in the north/eastern sky. It was very bright, almost like a plane landing light. We are both looking at it for about a minute or two, then it just disappeared. This repeated for three nights in a row but would appear at different points in the sky later and later during dusk. Turns out it was the international space station. The sun was reflecting off of their solar panels. pretty cool stuff. I love it when you are laying out at night watching the starts and you see a satellite pass over head.
