Double Agent
here is some more info on this one : 160 cars can drive side by side on this road OK. I know there's one somewhere in S. America that is 20 or 30 lanes. But I don't think it's big enough for 160 cars. I'm going to guess Brasilia, Brazil.

brett21
Also, http://www.geocities.com/TheTropics/3416/errors_and_myths_about_brasilia.htm The Avenue of 160 lanes In some places the Monumental Axis is considered "the largest avenue of the world". Yet, when you take a good look at it you realize it is not that large at all. The Monumental Axis could, in fact, be considered as two separate avenues of 6 lanes each. At least two web sites (website 1 - website 2) even say "The world's widest road is the Monumental Axis in Brazil, where 160 cars can drive side by side." This is totally crazy!!! Big John
Useful facts about Brazil - It's a popular misconception that the world's widest road is the Monumental Axis in Brazil, where 160 cars can drive side by side. Why would anyone need a road that wide? It's just foolishness... - Brazil has more species of mammals than any other country in the world. Surprisingly for a 10 stone rodent, the capybara is the most endearing of the lot. This is from one of the links that you provided. Looking at a photo of it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Monumental_axis.jpg it looks like they took the wide undrivable median into consideration in its width.
