In both 1933 and 1965, liberal majorities imposed vast expansions of government that have never been repealed, and the current financial panic may give today's left another pretext to return to those heydays of welfare-state liberalism. Americans voting for "change" should know they may get far more than they ever imagined.

I am concerned that the dems will likely have the white house and congress. It appears that when one party is in control of both, everyone gets to write checks for whatever they want (actually, 'check' is the wrong word. It's more like a credit card). We saw this happen from 2000-2006. I will be surprised if we don't see this if the dems control the WH and congress.
