Ursa Majoris
http://www.twincities.com/ci_14358113?source=most_viewed So, what's the problem? They work long hours and get paid overtime. If they weren't doing it, someone else would, thus the cost to the Transit Authority is net zero. This should be right up your street - two guys working their balls off and making money. In fact, if they hired new employees to reduce the OT, the new employees would probably cost more when you add P&B (benefits) expenses. CaP'N GRuNGe
What's the government doing involved in bussing in the first place? Privatize it or let the freeloaders walk. Edited February 12, 2010 by CaP'N GRuNGe

Yukon Cornelius
my guess is he is whining about this They're among the seven bus drivers who made more than $100,000 last year thanks to a union contract that lets the most senior drivers who have the highest base salaries get first crack at overtime. gbpfan1231
Maybe it is because the guy makes less than 50K without overtime so by making almost 110k in OT alone you would have to assume it would have saved the taxpayers money to actually hire a new worker - OT does save money but there is a certain point when it does become fiscally correct to add a new person. Now you must take into consideration that if 2009 was an abnormally you still may be better off paying the 110k in OT if you would have less hours to fill for 2010. Maybe having some temp or part time workers is the way to go. I am guessing his point was that the govt and maybe because of a union they don't take the time and effort to be fiscally concious??? SayItAintSoJoe
If these guys want to spend every waking hour of their lives behind the wheel of a bus making $$$, then more power to them. 7 more families added to the middle class. 7 more families that might be able to send their children to college so they don't have to bust their butts, driving buses to earn a decent living.
