DubGeek
1st time Fantasy Football player, long time NFL fan. The guys at work started up a FF league at the office years ago and because of a member backing out, I've been offered his team. We're registered with ESPN and the rules are as follows: ROSTER Current Roster Size: 15 Total Starters: 10 Total On Bench: 5 (1 IR) POSITION STARTERS Quarterback (QB) 1 Running Back (RB) 2 Wide Receiver (WR) 3 Tight End (TE) 1 Team Defense/Special Teams (D/ST) 1 Place Kicker (K) 1 Head Coach (HC) 1 Bench (BE) 5 Injured Reserve (IR) 1 SCORING Passing Passing Yards (PY) 0.1 Each Pass Completed (PC) 0.1 Each Incomplete Pass (INC) -0.1 TD Pass (PTD) 3 40+ yard TD pass bonus (PTD40) 2 50+ yard TD pass bonus (PTD50) 3 Interceptions Thrown (INT) -2 2pt Passing Conversion (2PC) 2 Sacked (SK) -1 Rushing Rushing Yards (RY) 0.1 TD Rush (RTD) 6 40+ yard TD rush bonus (RTD40) 2 50+ yard TD rush bonus (RTD50) 3 2pt Rushing Conversion (2PR) 2 Receiving Receiving Yards (REY) 0.1 Each reception (REC) 0.1 TD Reception (RETD) 3 40+ yard TD rec bonus (RETD40) It's a 2-keeper league and I'm looking for some advice. I need to think with my wallet and not my heart, lol. The team I took over consists of the following: Eli Manning, NYG QB Trent Edwards, Buf QB Chester Taylor, Chi RB Ricky Williams, Mia RB Steve Slaton, Hou RB Roy E. Williams, Dal WR Bernard Berrian, Min WR Donald Driver, GB WR Mohamed Massaquoi, Cle WR Brandon Marshall, Mia WR Torry Holt, NE WR Antonio Gates, SD TE P 49ers D/ST, SF D/ST Ravens Coach, Bal HC Seahawks Coach, Sea HC I'm really struggling with who I keep. Which 2 players would you keep and why? Also to note, I have draft position #4. Currently leaning towards Marshall and Gates.
wilbjamin
Pretty terrible team, I would back out too. Has to be Marshall and Gates, they're the only 2 you should even consider. I too would see about getting a comp pick b/c you are already behind the rest of your league.
Samson
You are inheriting a dreadful squad, and i guess those two are the best of that bunch to keep. How big is the league? 16 teams?
Outlaws01
You might want to rethink inheriting that team, it is terrible. If you plan on taking that team over and have to keep two players, Gates and Marshall are the only good options.
DubGeek
Yes, 16 team league. After reading more of the rules, it appears as though my 2 keepers count as round 1 and round 2 of the draft. Therefore, if I keep no one, I'll get pick #4 overall in round 1 and then pick #20 overall in round 2. Looking at my fellow competitors, they all have 2 keepers in mind each, so 32 players will be gone when I get my 1st pick. Thoughts? Also, this is my first $ FF league... any draft advice you could give me would also really help. It's snake draft and keepers will be released 1 week before draft. Maybe I'll report at that time. Chief Dick
Hell, I keep Marshall and throw everyone else back.
Lucky11
yeah, I'd go Marshall and Gates too, but I'd make the league let you keep less than two and get 1-2 supplemental picks *before* the draft started. That team sucks and they should be happy that you took it. ^^exactly that^^

I wonder if the guy knew he was going to back out and traded all his decent players off to the others for crap. Don't normally see a team that bad, but I have
Scare Tactics
I agree your picking up a pretty bad team.. I wouldnt keep anyone. Why would u keep Marshall for a 1st round pick when its not PPR (0.1 per rec) and your only getting 3 pts for a rec td when rush td's are worth 6? The rules have basically made Wr's useless.. Oh wow, after looking over the rules more closely throw everyone back and start over. Either way you're getting screwed. See if you can get your league fees paid for you this year b/c there ain't no way you're gonna win this league w/ your first pick being #36 or your best player being a guy getting no value for his production (Marshall)
dynastyguru32
I agree that that is a horrible team that you have but the fact that everyone can only keep two players means that you have a shot to improve your team each year. It's obvious that the previous owner didn't do well but if you pick wisely this year you can have a competitive team and should be able to have some good keepers come next year. I would keep both MArshall and Gates. This gives you a top 5 wr and TE. Look to get best rb available at the 1.04 pick. You may not compete this year but you aren't doomed for the years to come. DubGeek
After the keeper deadline, I'll see who won't be made available. Then, I'll report and see what everyone thinks. This is my 1st fantasy league in a long time, but the rules are drastically different. I have no idea what strategy to implore here.
DubGeek
I was able to get the points leaders from last years draft.... 23 were QB's (18 were in the top 20 point standings), 24 were defense/special teams and 3 were Running backs. Eli (currently on my team - can keep) ranked #10 overall and based on the fact that it's a 16 team league, I'm leaning towards keeping him and throwing everyone else back. Then, with my 1st pick (round 2), try to take the #1 ranked def/st. Thoughts? Here is/was last year's Top 50 in points: Aaron Rodgers, GB QB 586.9 Drew Brees, NO QB 557 Matt Schaub, Hou QB 551.6 Peyton Manning, Ind QB 544.2 Tom Brady, NE QB 538.9 Tony Romo, Dal QB 536.2 Philip Rivers, SD QB 507.2 Brett Favre, Min QB P 496.3 Ben Roethlisberger*, Pit QB O 492.8 Eli Manning, NYG QB P 469.1 Donovan McNabb, Was QB 431.6 Kyle Orton, Den QB 427.4 David Garrard, Jac QB 411.2 Jason Campbell, Oak QB 403.1 Jay Cutler, Chi QB 399.6 Joe Flacco, Bal QB 395 Chris Johnson, Ten RB 382.8 Carson Palmer, Cin QB 363.5 Matt Ryan, Atl QB 343 Bears D/ST, Chi D/ST 338.9 Buccaneers D/ST, TB D/ST 321.5 Lions D/ST, Det D/ST 315.3 Matt Hasselbeck, Sea QB 311.6 Browns D/ST, Cle D/ST 310.6 Eagles D/ST, Phi D/ST 310.2 Adrian Peterson, Min RB P 299.8 Matt Cassel, KC QB 297.2 Dolphins D/ST, Mia D/ST 295.6 Ravens D/ST, Bal D/ST 293.7 Chad Henne, Mia QB 293.7 Saints D/ST, NO D/ST 291.5 Maurice Jones-Drew, Jac RB 289.8 Texans D/ST, Hou D/ST 289.8 Steelers D/ST, Pit D/ST 289.1 Giants D/ST, NYG D/ST 287.5 Chiefs D/ST, KC D/ST 284.5 Vikings D/ST, Min D/ST 284.2 Rams D/ST, StL D/ST 281.9 Bengals D/ST, Cin D/ST 281 Bills D/ST, Buf D/ST 279.5 Broncos D/ST, Den D/ST 276.6 Packers D/ST, GB D/ST 275.9 Cardinals D/ST, Ari D/ST 275.2 Chargers D/ST, SD D/ST 264.5 Ray Rice, Bal RB 263.8 Titans D/ST, Ten D/ST 263.7 Jets D/ST, NYJ D/ST 263.1 Patriots D/ST, NE D/ST 261.8 49ers D/ST, SF D/ST 261.1 Alex Smith, SF QB 260.
