For the sake of this exercise we'll call my wife Maxine and the vendor Flo. Flo is from Utah. Maxine: Hi, I need to order 80 tons of widgets for one of our facilities. Flo: Sure. And to what state will we be sending that? Maxine: It's going to our plant in Maryland. Flo: Is that in Virginia? (Pause) Maxine: Uh, no, Maryland. (Really long pause) Maxine: Maryland is a state.
