Age Makeup in Movies

There are fantastic creatures that I've seen in movies and I rarely doubt their authenticity, but for some reason without exception when I see a young actor in a movie that is made up to look old, I never think that it looks believable. You'd think in this era we could find a way to make aging in movies look real.

I pretty much agree with this. And Tim Taylor looked nothing like Santa.

Forest Gump might be the exception that proves the rule.

I think the reason is because actors are generally good looking people and old people are not, so it's harder to make them look believably old. Now you take an actor that isn't known for his good looks, like Paul Giamatti as old John Adams, and you get a more believable transformation IMO.

Paul Giamatti
