Trimming the Hedges

One concern I have about the interchangeable units is how weildy the hedge trimmer is. Seems like it would be tougher to use than a dedicated model. Any thoughts on that?

I've never used one personally. I have held it... it is a bit heavy and will get to your arms, but so does my Husky 36" and Red Max dedicated long reach trimmer. If you are doing a hedge row however, despite the toll it takes on your arms, it reduces the labor time by more than half with fewer ladder moves. When I was still landscaping, I had to do some hedge rows that HAD to be done with a extended reach trimmer. Even a 36" Husky could not reach far enough. With the Red Max, I could top off a 15 foot Ilex from an 8 foot step ladder.

As a home owner, I'd go with either the Stihl or Echo interchangable head system. I still don't have a pole pruner, and that would come in very handy.

I went with the Stihl. The dealer recommended the STIHL KM 90 R KombiMotor, so that was what I bought. I thought about getting the more powerful machine, but I am not sure it will make enough of a difference for me to notice, and it's a bit heavier.
