Ditkaless Wonders
My own practice when visiting such establishments is to enter with a fixed number of dollars and leave any means of getting more e.g. CC, debit card, etc, elsewhere. I do the same on my occasional visits to casinos. This ensures the fine young ladies can eat but not for too long. Keep 'em hungry and you keep 'em motivated. Good Policy. Duchess Jack
Considering all NFL players except possibly an undrafted walk-on or two have been to college, I find it completely preposterous that the NFL has to run "rookie symposiums" to teach them not to piss away more than they earn and maybe even try to save a little for the future. What does it cost them, really? Also its bad PR when a retired player crashes and burns. Also players who don't crash and burn have a chance to give back. But really how much could it possibly cost them.

It isn't a question of what it costs them (likely more than you think since it involves flying all rookies in from all over the country). It's why everyone points the finger at the NFL, implying it's their fault, when players who have earned $30 million less taxes over their careers go bust within a few years of leaving. How can this be anyone's fault other than the player? For damn sure I'm never going bust with that kind of scratch. If I go bankrupt after I retire, will reporters come to my old employer and blame them? The only other names in the frame might possibly be their agent or adviser(s) but even then, these people are employees of the player, not the NFL. It's why everyone points the finger at the NFL, implying it's their fault, when players who have earned $30 million less taxes over their careers go bust within a few years of leaving. Is it? Do they? Again, the last time I really heard a lot of people bringing this up was during the labor dispute and it was said, primarily, by people who were siding with the owners. "Why should the players get more? They're only going to blow it anyway." I think that the vast majority of the people, even those among us who don't begrudge them getting as much as they can out of the recent CBA, look at nobody but the players when it comes down to why they're all broke. The NFL does have a massive, massive issue on it's hands, and that is the number of players who leave the game badly injured or, more specifically, with head issues. That's something that people can fairly look at and say, "Why isn't the NFL doing more?" But, your average Joe, trying to make it on the kind of money that most of us are trying to make it on, knowing they could pay their house off with a couple of months pay from these guys, isn't shedding one freaking tear for the players who lose their jack. And that includes plenty of people with little education who didn't have anyone hold their hand and explain that they couldn't spend their entire paycheck on Air Jordans and strippers. And, again, if anything, it becomes a bargaining chip for the owners in the court of public opinion the next time they need to divvy up the funds. I honestly don't see why the owners have the obligation, or even incentive to do this for the players.

matt770
I hope the rookie symposium covers investing in Beanie Babies. Man, you can make a fortune flipping those things on Ebay.
