Guest dabears
Driving me crazy. I think Baker is leaning towards Dempster being the 5th. Order so far is: Wood, Prior, Maddux, Zambrano, ? I thought Rusch did an excellent job filling in last season PLUS he's a lefty. Dempster, being a righty, would make all 5 starters righties. Doesn't make sense. Borowski looks to be moving in closing duties too. Anyone hear anything?
Skrappy1
Anyone hear anything? 719226 Nope. I've read some things about Dempster being the most likely candidate to close, but that seems a bit unlikely to me...who knows? Skrappy1
Saw this on Rotoworld today...not that's it's very helpful, but at least it's an update of sorts: Ryan Dempster, who could end up being either the fifth starter or the closer, will pitch two innings when he makes his spring debut in ''a couple of days,'' according to pitching coach Larry Rothschild. There's a third option -- Dempster could be neither the No. 5 starter nor the closer, if Glendon Rusch and LaTroy Hawkins (or Joe Borowski or someone acquired in a trade) win those jobs. He is, however, someone to watch this spring.

Was really the only good read, the rest was all about Sammy. That's what got me thinking and start to go nuts. Wrigley is also up for more improvements. A non-trained eye would miss the added seats behind home plate that go from dug-out to dug-out, but I noticed immediately. It ruined the lines and symmatry (sp) along the inside of the field. Basic article for bleacher changes at cubs site if you don't get Vinelines: Wrigley changes Thanks for the heads up, I must show more patience. darin3
I'm guessing that Dempster closes, with Borowski and Hawkins being set-up guys. Rusch will be the 5th starter.
broncosn05
I don't think Boroski is worthy of closing for these pitchers.
Guest dabears
I don't think Boroski is worthy of closing for these pitchers. 727551 He's definitely iffy. So far, I believe he is falling into a set-up role. Rusch has been doing a good job, but so has Dempster. Can't wait for the final decisions, makin me nuts! Skrappy1
Sounds to me like the closer is going to be either Borowski or Hawkins and the 5th starter is going to be Rusch or Dempster or maybe even one will be the 4th starter and one will be the 5th starter if Wood is hurt worse then they are saying. I'm beginning to have serious doubts that either Wood or Prior can stay healthy for any length of time. Dempster seems like he's mostly out of the closer mix though as he pitched almost 3 innings yesterday (2 + 2/3). This is from the Cubs website: Ryan Dempster, a candidate for the Cubs' fifth starter spot, went 2 2/3 innings and gave up three runs -- two earned -- on four hits and three walks. He struck out four. http://chicago.cubs.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/new...t=.jsp&c_id=chc And the link below is to the current depth chart on their website...it lists both Borowski and Hawkins as Closers, and Dempster and Rusch still in the bullpen for now: http://chicago.cubs.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/tea...ex.jsp?c_id=chc Edited March 11, 2005 by Skrappy1

Chicago Cubs pitcher Mark Prior will miss his next spring start Tuesday because of inflammation in his elbow, which developed after his first outing. Prior, who did not pitch until June last year because of problems with his Achilles and elbow, had an MRI exam done Sunday on his right elbow. He was examined by orthopedic specialist Dr. Lewis Yocum, who was the Angels' physician. There is no damage to the ligament and no damage to the ulnar nerve, Cubs general manager Jim Hendry said. http://chicago.cubs.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/new...t=.jsp&c_id=chc

That or he just can't stay healthy. I'd be thinking of possible trade value if trainers can't keep his elbow in whack IMO. Good thing not to rush it though. I remember the Wood incident all too well in 98. He missed like a year and 1/2.
gilthorp
You Cubs fans are so arrogant, it's funny. Why don't you make sure the #1 AND #2 are healthy before you start talking about the #5!!!

I think he has great stuff, especially his 2 seam and 4 seam fastballs. I don't think he'll "mess it up," but needs to control more of his emotions while on the mound.
