spain
I have heard alot of great things about Frye.. Frye impresses at pro day… Any questions NFL teams had about Akron QB Charlie Frye’s arm strength may have been put to rest when the former Zips’ star launched a 60-yard plus pass from a flat-footed position at the end of a pro workout yesterday in Akron. Indeed, by all accounts, Frye had an overall solid workout in front of officials from 11 NFL teams. Frye is currently battling with other second-tier QBs like Jason Campbell of Auburn and Andrew Walter of Arizona State for the #3 QB grade for the 2005 draft behind juniors Aaron Rodgers of California and Alex Smith of Utah. The highest ranking official at yesterday’s workout was Cleveland G.M. Phil Savage. The Browns, who have the 3rd selection overall at this year’s draft, in fact, were also represented by director of personnel Bill Rees and QB coach Rip Scherer. Savage also met personally with Frye after the workout. Another very interested observer was Green Bay offensive co-ordinator Tom Rossley; Rossley, in fact, was the only co-ordinator in attendance. And Rossley, who is looking for an eventual replacement for Brett Favre reportedly, saw a lot of Favre in Frye. According to Rossley, Frye is a “playmaker” who is athletic, throws well on the run, and is tough.” Rossley, along with several other observers, also noted that Frye has improved his arm strength this year and has speeded up his delivery. Mom knows best; 49ers search down to 4 players… San Francisco’s short list for the #1 pick at the 2005 draft is down to 4 players, at least according to Miami CB Antrel Rolle’s mom. Rolle will workout for the 49ers ncxt week, and according to his mother, Rolle has been told that the only other players the 49ers are having in for private workouts are QBs Aaron Rodgers of California and Alex Smith of Utah, along with Michigan WR Braylon Edwards. Dolphins sign vet CB, trade could be closer… There is nothing much new today on the proposed trade between Miami and Kansas City involving Dolphins' CB Patrick Surtain, however, the Dolphins may have inched closer to pulling the switch when they signed veteran CB Mario Edwards as a potential replacement. Edwards played last year at Tampa Bay after starting for several years in Dallas. The Chiefs have reportedly come to terms with Surtain on a new long term deal if a trade can be worked out, however, the teams remain fairly wide apart on compensation. The Dolphins are asking for at least a 2nd round pick this year, while the Chiefs have countered by offering a 4th rounder. Meanwhile, new Miami head coach Nick Saban has said the Dolphins are prepared to hang onto Surtain if they don't get market value.
loaf
With a bit of brains, the Browns will pass on Smith or Rodgers, take Braylon Edwards with the 3rd pick and Frye with their Second Rounder...
