Tim Brown's Retirement -ESPN Article

Actually, I think that there IS some merit to the argument that Brown was never really regarded as "the best" at his position for more than an odd season or two. Taking a quick look, he led the AFC in rec once and rec yards 4 times, and once tied the league in rec, but overall I think he was rarely regarded as "the best" if you were building a team - though in large part, that isn't something that you could truly consider his fault; his prime coincided with that of guys like Rice, Henry Ellard, and Cris Carter - not to mention other guys who had dominant stretches like Herman Moore, Andre Rison and Sterling Sharpe.

Bottom line is that Tim Brown is a superior version of Art Monk - was he ever truly "the best" while he played? I'd say no in both cases; but both guys performed at a high enough level for a long enough period of time to put themselves numbers-wise in the upper echelon (not to mention both seem to be class acts, to boot), and that certainly deserves STRONG Hall of Fame consideration.

Tim Brown's peak, yr-rec-yds-avg-tds. Other than Jerry Rice, who's had a run like that?

Just to put Tim Brown's career in perspective, if it wasn't for Jerry Rice, he would be number one all-time in several key WR statistics.

If that doesn't get him into Canton, then nothing will. About the only knock you can put on him was that he never got a Superbowl ring, but then, nobody really expects a WR to the Superbowl.
