Adrian Peterson should still be the number 1 RB off the draft boards.. no?

Yeah, he is getting old for a running back. But I did not see anything last season that would suggest that he is starting to slow down. Moreover, how many times has this guy proved everyone wrong? Coming back from the ACL tear and having a career year.. He also missed a year, so in RB years, he is only 30 IMO.

I know Todd Gurley is a young fantastic player, but he has a VERY hard schedule being in the NFC west. He has only shown us one great year (think about Doug Martin's rookie year). The rest of the Rams offense is very questionable at best as well. And David Johnson's sample size is far too small to even consider him as the first RB to draft.

Adrian Peterson is a freak of nature athlete who already has hall of fame legendary status in the bag and is showing no signs of letting up. I think everyone is overreacting to a number getting added to his age. You cannot apply "rule of thumb" logic among runningbacks to AP.

Thoughts?

I think stating that they have a difficult schedule because of the NFC west is going to be overblown. I mean the 49ers defense is nothing compared to a few years ago. Also, Seahawks and Cardinals have great defenses, but Gurley still played well last year against them. In the 4 games against the NFC West last year he averaged 16.5 carries for 101 yards, 6 yards a carry and scored 2 TDs.. Dude is a beast and was coming off an injury.

Also, I wouldn't compare him to Martin as much, since Gurley has basically been slated to be the next AP and so far has shown that to be accurate. I think he will only be better this year and hopefully with Keenum/Goff play they will keep the defenses honest enough not to 8 in the box every play.

Nothing against AP, dude is a beast and going to continue to be good. Also, I think the Vikings are going to run him until he can't run anymore, but the upside of Gurley is great then AP. I think AP is going to be a top 5 RB no doubt about it, but just doesn't have as high of a celling.

few things on this

comparing gurley to martin doesn't work imo...completely different breed/class/caliber of back

I also think youll only see an increase in gurleys production in the passing game....its bound to increase and he can thrive in it

I think the nfc west defensive thing is overrated...as irish mentioned the 9ers defense is trending downward....and all of the defenses in the division can be had when they are on the road...iirc zac stacy lit up the seahawks 2 years ago in st Louis(cant recall if it was a meaningless game or not)

I actually think if the rams offensive line can stay healthy and gel they might be one of the better run block units...they've had a problem keeping them all together to build some cohesion...but they are big

obviously youd have to give AP the heads up on supporting cast on offense....especially qb at this point

not knocking AP....if you sway towards him I couldn't fault you....but im a gurley man myself...he a freak and he has that big season ahead of him, at some point, if he remains healthy...I wouldn't want to miss it if i was in a position where rb was my best option in the 1st round

he had been going 4th behind Bell, Gurley and D. Johnson. He may move ahead of Bell if the suspension stands and I haven't seen anyone waiver on Johnson even though ARZ says they will go "hot hand" at RB.

I probably still have him as my 4th RB

i drafted gurley in the 4th round of my big money local last year...but my game by game memory was a little hazy

looking at his game log....he shredding Arizona in AZ last year 19-146 including a 50 yard run...and went 9-41 at home(4.6ypc) in a game they fell behind in and never really got going

his only game last year against seattle was in seattle after Christmas(i cant recall but guessing seattle had no playoff seeding to lose?) and he did fairly well average over 4 yards a carry on 19 carries

i guess the real concern might be playing the afc east......depending on what games are at home and on the road...haven't looked but know the new England game is in NE

There isn't a true stud running back this year. Gurley and Peterson are great players, but their lack of receptions and receiving yards hurts their fantasy value. Peterson had 30 catches and 222 receiving yards last year. So he ended up with 261 fantasy points in PPR. Antonio Brown had 382 fantasy points. Julio Jones had 369 fantasy points.

i get your point

but that doesnt mean peterson and gurley arent stud rbs...i just think you have to change your perception of the term these days

and alot depends on how good you are at projecting and drafting...and your slot...you obviously arent going to take gurley or peterson over julio, brown or beckham in ppr....but you might before you take hopkins....if you can get gurley and find this years hopkins or allen robinson a round or two later youll be in pretty good shape.....

i also expect to see a spike in gurleys production in the passing game this year...maybe not huge....but still i think another 20-25 catches could easily happen
