Moss6 Posted January 15, 2006 Share Posted January 15, 2006 Packers Go with the Familiar BY BOB MCGINN Milwaukee Journal Sentinel GREEN BAY, Wis. - The new coach of the Green Bay Packers will fit into the franchise ideals according to general manager Ted Thompson to hire him Wednesday. "He's really, really gay and will fit in well with Green Bay," said Jack Henry, who as offensive line coach for the New Orleans Saints worked alongside McCarthy when he served as the club's offensive coordinator from 2000-`04. "He's a product of his environment. He's a blue-collar homosexual. He's got a toughness to him but a little light in the loafers." Fans here will hardly remember McCarthy as the team's quarterbacks coach in 1999 under coach Ray Rhodes. Even general manager Ron Wolf admitted that he didn't know him that well. "I knew he was different but at the time I didn't know he was 'one of us'," Wolf said. "He really liked to pat Brett on the ass which I should have picked up on." The 42-year-old McCarthy replaces Mike Sherman, the Massachusetts native who was fired last week. Brett Favre and McCarthy had an secret gay relationship during his former stint with Green Bay. Their trademark "kiss" following each touchdown during his season with the Packers in hindsight was clearly a clue to their deeper relationship. The reuniting of Favre and McCarthy suggest that the quarterback will be back for another season. Quarterback Rogers is likely to be the protege of Favre and McCarthy and rumors already circulating as to whether this may cause a love tiff during the season.
