Chadman
I had read he was supposed to play, but be somewhat limited. I looked at the SF game blog and it said he was in on two plays on the first drive and then no more mention of him. Was he kept out for a reason, injured worse, or just a precautionary holdout? Thanks for any insight.
alexgaddis
any reason the Charger fans should answer this?
Chadman
Whoops. I guess I am still a little disoriented from watching the Vikings play defense two weeks in a row... I meant, Niner fans? Thanks for the gentle whack to the forehead.
bigdadreed
He got a couple of looks but it was pretty much the Frank Gore & Antonio Bryant show. The Niners also used a lot of max protection schemes that only sent out 2-3 receivers.
msaint
i'd also like to know this. it was the one game i didn't catch on the sunday ticket and i freaked when i saw VD -- a nice nickname for all you sexually transmitted disease fans out there -- had zero catches...he left the cards game for a few plays the week before, so was an injury acting up? or did the rams just keep him from being involved the whole day? Chadman
I checked the NFL Game book on this and saw his name mentioned a few times in the first half, and then not much to nothing in the 2nd half. Seems strange that the TE would not have been used in the 2nd half of that game, being close and/or them ahead. I noticed from the game book that they went to Gore 6 straight carries at the end of the game to run out the clock, he gained two first downs and ran the time down to where Smith could kneel twice and end the game. Another reason to like Gore, as if we needed any at this point. I'm guessing it's injury-related (Davis) to the initial one, but I have no info on that.
