I've been thinking about getting an iPod for a while, but ran into one of these and it looks kinda cool:

Archos 504

They have one with the DVR docking bay bundled together on sale at Target for $340, normally $400.

The thing that caught my eye with this is how you can record off TV/DVD onto the unit with the docking bay (can iPod do that easily?) and the size of the video screen is larger at 4.3 inches. This one has 40GB. There are other models with even high storage but I can't see needing more for the additional price. There are even models with WiFi but I don't think I'm going to go that hi-tech yet. This unit would store my music library easily and play with the video feature from time to time. And yes, this unit is quite large. No where near as compact as the I-Pod. But i don't really care about that.

My question is, I guess, does anyone have one of these or at least familiar with them? Do you like it? Is iPod still the way to go?

  • 2 weeks later...

I used to have a RCA Lyra Jukebox that was a little larger recorded off of TV/DVD and had 20gigs of storage, also had a compact flash card spot for easy picture transfer. I liked it a lot but for my money the size and ease of use of the Ipod is the way to go.

This is the one I used to have.

You might wait a couple of months and get an iPhone.
