I am psyched for this game....... Billay talk to me- how big is it for the Heels to be missing Terry??

For me the game is going to come down to Wright- he is the X factor for me. I think Gibson can slow down and neutralize Tyler somewhat but he ain't gonna be able to take em both on- and Wright could do some serious damaage.... on the flip

I think USC has a nice edge on the wing and in the backcourt. Lawson is a stud, but he is also a Freshman. The combo USC wil throw at UNC of Pruitt/Hackett/Stewart will be tough on the young Heels- he hasn't faced a well-coached defensive minded team in the ACC-period. And if Frasor or Miler see major minutes- not good.

Young is USC's wildcard- I don't see NC having an answer for him- the guy is a stud and the most talented 2/3 on the floor by far. He can take over games at points-

coaching will be key as well- I give Floyd the edge as an in-game coach. USC's maturity and they way they D up will be hugh.

USC should concentrate on others beside Hansborough, because Big T is gonna get his, so the Trojans should attempt to chink the armor else where vs the Heels. As for the coaching, let's just say Roy is one of the best in the biz. Trojans keep it close until they get the Heels attention at which point the "Carolina Run" will take place, the Heels build a cushion, and coast into the Elite 8.

Maybe, but I just don't see it. USC is too good defensively for the Heels to cruise, and missing Terry could be big. Roy? I think he is an excellent recruiter, but as for in game coaching? ehhh . Until he walked into Doherty's talented playes at UNC- he was known for some of the biggest choke jobs in the country at KU. Roy better tighten up his rotation or USC will expose Frasor, Wes and company. Should be a good one!

Man, I'm pumped for tonight. 10:00pm seems like an eternity from now.

I think you're disrespecting the defense in the ACC a bit wildcat. I'm not saying that USC is not a strong defensive squad, but to say that UNC has gone the entire year and not seen the likes of their defense is a bit of an overstatement.

Terry will play tonight. Mark my words. He may only play sparingly, primarily in the last 10 minutes, but he will play.

Danny Green will have to step up for Terry. Quite frankly, he's not going to need to score. Reyshawn isn't a huge point producer. What Green will have to replace is the intangibles, rebounding and hustle. Don't forget though, Green was a solid contributor on last year's team that went 12-4 in the ACC.

I think you're right about the paint, wildcat, the Heels are going to give you trouble. You might be able to stop Hansbrough and you might be able to stop Wright, but you're not going to be able to stop them both. And when they need a breather, we can bring in Thompson for some offense and Steveson for some solid D and rebounding. ( Both Cali recruits BTW) Very few teams have the quality, interior depth that the Heels have. Thompson is the kicker, as Gibon will have to play stout D every minute of the game. It will take a toll on him.

USC has 3 formidable perimeter threats. We have had problems this year defending the perimeter, but have been playing better D the latter part of the season. Again, our depth is our biggest advantage as the USC trio will be facing fresh legs all night long. Lawson, Ellington, Frasor, Miller, and QT will take turns on defensive duty. Remember, they don't have to be game stoppers, only wear you out in 3 minutes spurts.

The job of defending young will probably fall to MArcus Ginyard, our defensive specialist.

If USC can shoot a high percentage from outside, they are going to give us real trouble. We'll be pounding the ball inside and forcing the tempo and USC will be penetrating, dishing and hitting jumpshots. If you guys don't shoot well however, then the Heels ought to be able to get a win.

Even with Terry playing limited minutes, the rest of the squad will have to step up. the last time some Tar Heels were out of the rotation, you'll recall, was in Arizona when Brendan Wright, Quentin Thomas and Bobby Frasor were all out of action. I think you remember how that game turned out. :D

I think the Heels depth, ultimately, is too much to overcome. Should be a great game.

solid points- not disrepecting the ACC D - at all, I just think with alot of these teams in the tourny- you are seeing a whole different level of defensive intensity. I just think you will see a physicality and on the ball D from the SC guards that yes, you do not have in the ACC this year- no offense.

The TY/Wright combo is hugh - and could spell trouble no question. I think the UNC depth plays no factor to be honest with ya, and I think it is overrated in a game like this- these USC kids can run all day, and think subbing in Frasor or Miller will only be a negative for the Heels actually.

I can readily admit the SC team is much tougher minded than my soft azz Wildcats- Tim Floyd has them d'ing up like crazy- and Taj Gibson is tough in the paint- he has to stay out of foul trouble.

Either way - here's hoping to a good, well played game.

IF USC is stroking it.............. 76-71 SC

if they start off a bit cold shooting the rock- uh oh, could turn into a double digit NC win

All this talk about D without much mention of foul trouble (cat mentioned Gibson). If UNC has such a huge depth advantage, they may also have an edge with fouls to give.

On the other hand, if the very athletic Trojans can get the big guys in trouble early, (and those guys are the catalysts for buckets in the paint,) it could be a long night for UNC...

UNC has 10 fouls to give with Thompson and Steveson. Add in another 6 for Hansbrough and Wright, and you've got a long way to go to get the Heels big men in foul trouble.

The biggest foul worry is Ty Lawson, hands down. If Lawson gets 2 early, we could be in trouble.

The Heels are shooting hooribly. :D

If we can hit a few jumpshots, we'll get back in this thing. We began to get in the lane in the latter part of the first half, but then Lawson picked up his second foul and Bobby is out of his league defensively. Ty has to be careful not to pick up any more cheap fouls. His second came when the ball wasn't even in play.

A lot of basketball left to play. :fingers crossed:

Depth, depth, depth, wildcat. Nothing more. USC flat ran out of gas. We were on the ropes, but in the end, we had more legs and more weapons.

Ballgame

Wow- literally 2 different games. Unreal, I can't understand the poor execution down the stretch.

Taj's 4th was the ballgame. They were not the same after that. Depth was definitely a factor, but they were deflated more than anything - and that team is done without Gibson. Valient effort by the Trojans, frustrating game.

With all due respek to PD :D

- the best basketball conference top to bottom this year was the Pac 10. period. end of story.

Nice win Billay boy- ur boys finished strong. Thought SC delivered the knockout blow, but they could not put them away -

Yes, everything changes when Taj left the floor. Suddenly we were able to get some rebounds and some putbacks and suddenly 16 became 9 became 5...

That's a talented squad, and you were right, Wildcat, they shut Hansbrough down. Fortunatley, UNC isn't a one trick pony this year.

Props to USC.

Watching the game live I noticed a few things.

1. Lawson is faster then every other player by a mile.

2. Hansbrough sucked. He was missing shots, dropping the ball, he just didn't look good last night.

3. Wright is a man playing with boys. If I had big man depth I would play hack a shaq with him.

4. In the first half USC was driving with ease and kicking it out to wide open guys. Then for some reason they stopped kicking it out and just started shooting down low. UNC was way to big for them to do that.

5. Both UNC & Gtown controlled the glass. It will be interesting to see who wins that battle tomorrow. I'm excited already to see that game.
